Introduction to the Program

The Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages is a standardized examination organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation. The examination is divided into two types: General Version and Local Version. Based on the "Standards for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages," the examination evaluates the candidates' abilities in five standard criteria: Chinese teaching fundamentals, Chinese teaching methods, teaching organization and classroom management, Chinese culture and cross-cultural communication, and professional ethics and development. It assesses whether the candidates possess the necessary qualifications to be international Chinese teachers.

I. Examination Candidates and Eligibility Criteria

The Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages is open to individuals who are interested in engaging in international Chinese education, including teachers and relevant professionals from various educational institutions both domestically and abroad.

(A) General Version Eligibility Criteria

1. Be passionate about international Chinese education and commitment to promoting the Chinese language and culture.

1. Be in possession of a bachelor's degree or above (including recent graduates).

2. Non-Chinese citizens who have attained a Chinese proficiency level equivalent to HSK Level 6.

3. Chinese citizens who have obtained a Class II Grade A or above in the Proficiency Test of Putonghua and are proficient in a foreign language.

(B) Local Version Eligibility Criteria

1. Non-Chinese citizens who are passionate about international Chinese education and committed to promoting the Chinese language and culture.

4. Be in possession of a junior college degree or above (including recent graduates).

5. Chinese proficiency level equivalent to HSK Level 5 or HSKK Intermediate.

II. Examination Schedule and Registration

The examination is held regularly each year. The official website of the Certificate for Teachers of Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (www.chineseteacher.org.cn) will announce the examination dates in advance and provide relevant services such as registration and score inquiry.

III. Scores and Certificates

Candidates can inquire about their scores 20 working days after the written examination. The written examination scores remain valid for a period of two years, during which candidates who still possess valid scores may proceed to apply for the interview.

Candidates can inquire about their interview results 20 working days after the conclusion of the interviews (counting from the last day of the interview sessions). Qualified candidates who pass the interview are eligible to apply for the certification within two years from the announcement of the interview results. The application is contingent upon the interview scores and the submission of documented evidence of holding a bachelor’s degree or higher. Failure to submit the application within the designated time-frame will render the scores invalid.

Candidates who wish to apply for a score re-examination must submit the following documents in electronic format to jszx@chinesetest.cn within 10 working days after the score announcement: a scanned copy of their admission ticket, a scanned copy of their identification card (both front and back), and the score re-examination application form (Attachment 1). The object of the email and the naming format of the materials should be "复查成绩 + Full name + Registration number". Score re-examination applications will not be accepted after the deadline. The scope of the score re-examination is limited to checking for any missed evaluation, inaccuracy of scoring and recording, and the presence of any irregularities, violations, or other abnormal circumstances. The re-examination does not involve the assessment and evaluation process during the interview, nor does it involve the examiners' understanding of the scoring criteria and standards.

The results of the score re-examination will be communicated via email within 10 working days after the application is received. Only one score re-examination application will be accepted per examination. Since the written examination consists entirely of objective questions and is processed using computerized scanning without any manual scoring involved, score reviews are generally not necessary except for cases of zero scores, absence from the examination, negative scores or other abnormal scores. It is not recommended to apply for a score review unless there are compelling reasons.
